Let me just start off by saying that I am not the biggest fan of signal providers, having tried both Zulu and Tradency, from which my P/L nearly met its demise on both occasions.
With that said, when I first learned of Signal Trader, specifically the service they provide and how they provide it, I became interested enough to sign up for a demo account.
The two main aspects that gave me an indication that these guys had the potential to be better than your run-of-the-mill signal providers were that:
First of all, Signal Trader has only a handful of traders, all of whom are experienced professionals. They even list their strategies in great detail within each traders page or Trading Room, which you can watch in action for as long as you want, before deciding whether or not you want to put your cash in. The exciting part is that they not only trade the forex market, but indices and commodities as well. From what I could see, the indices specialists were raking it in over the last two weeks.
Secondly, I was able to link my own brokerage account with their system, select my trader(s) and desired risk exposure, and then not doing anything else. The only time I touched my account was when I wanted to change either one of those parameters, for whatever reason.
So the general idea becomes: linking your own account to the real account of traders you want, on the instruments you want, with the risk you want. Set it and forget it.
The nice thing I noticed when I was watching the traders in action was that I could see all of their P/Ls at once and compare their performance based on net percentage, actual profit, and max drawdown. Personally, I prefer following the guys who have a lower max drawdown, but your risk tolerance may be different from mine. Furthermore, within each Trading Room are the charts of all the instruments traded by that trader, which gives indications on exactly where they got in and got out. It also contains their open and closed positions.
When I went into my own trading account window, I could see the same types of charts on any instrument traded within my account, as well as the open and closed positions of traders I have selected. The only drawback was that I couldnt see a chart of the overall historical performance of the traders combined, just charts for individual traders.
Overall, I found Signal Trader to be a much more worthwhile endeavor over solutions Ive dealt with in the past. The only thing that remains to be seen is whether or not their traders will continue to be at least as profitable as they were up until now
